The division of Research focuses on testing concepts that hinges on curiosity, structured thinking, and a tolerance for failure — it’s a mindset that values evidence over ego and iteration over assumption. As a junior, you learn and apply the structure for product development.
Technology Readiness Level (TRL)
You will follow the technology readiness level scale for product development:
TRL 1 – Basic principles observed: Early scientific research begins to be translated into applied R&D.
TRL 2 – Concept formulated: Potential application identified; practical concept explored.
TRL 3 – Experimental proof of concept: Lab experiments confirm basic concept viability.
TRL 4 – Technology validated in lab: Key components integrated and tested in a lab setting.
TRL 5 – Technology validated in relevant environment: Simulated environment testing begins.
TRL 6 – Prototype demonstrated in relevant environment: Functional prototype tested in realistic conditions.
TRL 7 – System prototype demonstrated in operational environment: Near-final prototype tested in real-world settings.
TRL 8 – System complete and qualified: Technology proven to work in final form and under expected conditions.
TRL 9 – Actual system proven in operational environment: Technology fully deployed and operational in its intended environment.
Failure is status quo
Failure is to not achieve a set desired outcome. Either there is success or it is a fail. There are two parameters within failure: outcome and achieve. Both of these parameters are highly susceptible to change, called iterations. As an example: A manager may design the desired outcomes in a conventional job - not in research. What research really is constant failures with iterations.
Made to move the baseline
The research division moves the needle from the baseline. And the baseline is the next-closed competitor's product. This baseline is what drives innovation within our research division.
